The University of Pittsburgh admits students with academic and personal promise without regard to ability to pay. Working together with your family, we will find a way to make a Pitt education a reality for you.

How Financial Aid Works

  1. Apply to Pitt—Follow the instructions and submit your application.
  2. File Your FAFSA—Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
  3. Find Scholarships—While you will be automatically reviewed for Pitt merit-based scholarships, you can go to fastweb.com and CollegeBoard.com to search for external scholarships relevant to your background and interests. Note each has its own requirements and deadlines.
  4. See Where You Stand—Within three weeks of filing your FAFSA, you should receive a Student Aid Report that includes your Expected Family Contribution.
  5. The Answer is Yes! — When Pitt sends a financial aid award letter, the financial aid package may offer a combination of grants, loans, federal work study and will include any scholarships awarded by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.
  6. Evaluate Your Options—Consider all offers, ask questions, and determine what you can afford.
  7. Make a Decision—Choose where you’re going to enroll and follow the instructions on your acceptance letter.
  8. Pack Your Bags—Anticipated aid will show on your Pitt student account, allowing you to plan and budget. Disbursements start no sooner than 10 days prior to the start date of each term.
  9. Reapply Each Year—Each year you plan to attend school, you must complete a new FAFSA. Pay close attention to priority filing dates!
  10. Life after Graduation—A few months after you leave Pitt, you’ll receive information about loan repayment.
