The iSchool Building Policy
To ensure the safety of our faculty, staff and students, the iSchool has instituted the following policies regarding access to the IS Building, located at 135 North Bellefield Avenue.
The School is open to the public during regular class hours:
Monday - Thursday, 7:00 am - 10:00 pm
Friday - 7:00 am - 6:00 pm
Saturday - 8:30 am - 6:00 pm
Sunday – closed
The building will be locked during all official University breaks and holidays, as well as during non-class hours. It is university policy that unauthorized entry into the building outside of normal hours can be considered as trespassing.
Doctoral and graduate students working on research with faculty will be granted access on an individual basis. If such access is needed, please see Sharon Bindas in 513 IS Building to complete the paperwork to allow this access. If you do obtain special access to the building, please do not admit anyone else in the building outside of normal operating hours.
You are welcome to use any classroom or common space in the building as a study area or place for group work, provided that it is not reserved for another use and that this occurs during normal operating hours. To check room availability, please contact Carolyn Loether.
When the iSchool building is closed, feel free to take advantage of nearby spaces specifically intended for student use - the Commons Room in the Cathedral of Learning, the William Pitt Union, Hillman Library, etc. These facilities have extended hours, comfortable work spaces, and refreshments.
If the iSchool building is locked during normal class hours and a member of the staff is not available to admit you, please contact campus police at 412-624-4040 to request access to the building. Campus police will request to see your Pitt ID before unlocking the door for you.
These policies are in place for your protection and to safeguard the building and its contents.
